True Chan cultivators investigate not only when sitting, but also when standing, walking, and sleeping. In walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, there is not a moment when they do not investigate.

The four assemblies of disciples gather daily in this Jeweled Hall of Ten Thousand Buddhas for the morning and evening recitation ceremonies, and after evening recitation they listen to the Venerable Master's lectures on the Mahayana Sutras. Whenever there are intensive sessions for reciting the name of a Buddha or Bodhisattva, or three-week long session such as the winter Meditation Sessions, devotees from all directions come together to cultivate. During the annual Jeweled Repentance Before the Ten Thousand Buddhas, the Hall is filled with vigorous energy of cultivation.

The hall is adorned with streamers, banners, lamps and is graced in the center by the presence of an 18 feet high statue of the Thousand-Handed, Thousand Eyed Guanyin Bodhisattva. Rows of yellow bowing cushions are lined upon the red carpet. The entire Buddha Hall is magnificently adorned in ancient style.

Regardless of whether you recite the Buddha's name, hold mantras, keep the precepts, expound the teachings, or sit in Chan meditation, the goal is to focus the mind on a single point, to cast out the false and retain the true. At all times, look within yourself and recognize your original face. This is the method to use at the initial stages of practice.
